It isn’t very often that I go away around Ireland as I usually like to get out of the country when I am off work but I thought I would share with you the hotels I have stayed in – which are mostly in Dublin as its our favourite place to go when we are off for a few days.
I am a total bargain hunter when it comes to hotels/flights/holidays and I always seem to get great deals. I just search all the websites to find the best deals – they are out there you just have to look! I love searching – I could spend forever doing it. 😀
So first up on my list is The Marker Hotel – Dublin
This hotel is just WOW – its a 5 star hotel in Grand Canal Square. We got a good deal on this hotel for the weekend through Hotwire. I just loved when we stayed here – the hotel had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. There are supermarkets, restaurants and pharmacies all around the square. We spend most of our weekend around the hotel, we tried room service (try the burger its A M A Z I N G), the spa – I had a beautiful facial with an in-depth consultation, we also used the pool before we checked out and before I forget we spend a lovely evening on the roof top bar with some wine and cocktails. We had a fabulous weekend here and will definitely stay again.
I think it is my most favourite hotel to stay in to date
The Gibson Hotel – Dublin
Another beautiful hotel – the Gibson is 4* with a direct line on the Lucas into O’Connell Street which is super handy. This hotel is super modern with beautiful rooms – we enjoyed the room so much so that we slept right through our alarm for breakfast and only had 15 minutes to get showered and check out!! lol
At the time we booked this hotel we got a great rate for B&B – just a pity I can’t tell you what the breakfast was like.
The Beacon – Sandyford – Outside Dublin
We really like this hotel – mainly for the fact that there is a Thai restaurant downstairs that is fab so you don’t have to leave the hotel if you don’t want to. It has a great atmosphere about it in the evening with so much buzz. They do great Stay & Dine options. The Spicy Chicken Spring Rolls are by far our favourite off the menu.
The rooms are lovely here – the hallways could be doing with an up do if it hasn’t already happened.
It is a great place to stay if you don’t want to stay in the city centre – it close by to Dundrum shopping centre which is a big plus.
Hotel parking is also free for those staying which is an added bonus.
Corick House Hotel & Spa – Clogher, Co Tyrone
This was a Christmas present from my friend – we did the Sunday Spa Day package they had at the time which included an overnight stay with use of their spa and the private Serenity Suite for 1 hour.
I really enjoyed our stay here – the outdoor hot tub was fab and because it was private was even better.
We made use of the hotels Blackwater Grill Restaurant – our food was lovely and we enjoyed a few drinks in the lovely surroundings. I was at Corick house for a wedding a few years before my stay here and it was severely dated but OMG it is so stunning now especially the conservatory area.
Corick House is definitely on my list of places to go back and stay
Fitzwilliam Hotel – Belfast
We stayed here a few years ago between Christmas and New Year.
A stunning hotel from the moment you step in through the hotel doors to the bedrooms. It is my favourite place to stay in Belfast. It has recently just been done up and awarded 5* so I am sure its even more fantastic now.
The lobby is one of my favourite – it has such a relaxing feel to it.
The breakfast is first class – I love having breakfast included in the hotel as it saves having to look out and about for somewhere.
If you are in Belfast and don’t mind spending a bit extra definitely put The Fitzwilliam on your list you won’t be disappointed and it is very central to everything.
The Europa – Belfast
There is so much history behind the Europa Hotel – even if your not staying in it you can go in and read about it as you walk up the stair case to the Piano bar. I have only stayed once and we got one of the new rooms. The rooms aren’t overly big but have a lovely cosy feel to them.
Breakfast is also great here – if your lucky enough you can get a window seat and watch the world go by.
We often pop into the Europa when we are in Belfast to have a drink in the Piano bar – its a good place for a last stop drink before jumping on the train as it is situated right beside Great Victoria Train Station.
The Slieve Donard Hotel – Newcastle, Co Down
My boyfriend treated me to an overnight stay here a few years ago.
The hotel is beautiful with one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in. The hotel itself is quite old but they have updated the rooms. It is part of the Hasting Group which includes The Europa Hotel
It is a really beautiful hotel with lots of character throughout and stunning views from the hotel of the sea.
Its very pricy for drinks etc so beware of that if you stay.
Holiday Inn – Belfast
We stayed here last year very last minute – we got an over night for around £60
The hotel itself is basic but it does exactly what you need. A great thing about this hotel is that you need a room key to get through to the lifts which adds extra security which is great.
Its a great option if you are looking a cheaper stay in Belfast – around a 10 minute walk to the shops. It also has parking if you need it.
The hotel has a bar and restaurant which is convenient if you don’t want to go out of the hotel.
The Hilton – Belfast
I stayed here a number of years ago. Great hotel situated beside the Waterfront Hall and close the Central Train Station.
The rooms are lovely and spacious here and once again the breakfast is lovely – so good I kept going back for more 😉
Parking is expensive here, you can get cheaper around the corner if you don’t mind walking a bit with your bag.
The bar is also quite expensive with no real atmosphere.
It is a lovely hotel but it feels like it is more for business that for relaxing for me
That’s my round up of hotels through North and South – mainly Dublin & Belfast.
I hope these may be of some use to some of you reading. Some of them are quite expensive and up market but totally worth the treat if you like staying in nice hotels.
Because I work long hours and weeks on end I love to stay somewhere lovely when I get a few days away so I always save a little harder for the treat of a 4/5* hotel.
I think everyone now and again should have a little luxury in their life and stay in a lovely hotel because the experience is totally worth it.
Thank you for reading and I hope some of this post has been useful to some of you as I know from past experiences that it can be totally head wrecking trying to pick a good hotel in a good location with unbiased reviews.
