Most women and men go through some sort of skin/acne rut in their lifetime. Whether it be through teenage years or when they are older, if you’ve managed to avoid it then consider yourself very lucky
For 10+ years I have been dealing with skin problems, anything from spots, large pores to uneven skin tone. I have tried changing my diet, antibiotics, creams etc but found minimal results. Recently my skin has been looking better than ever so I am putting it down to making a more conscious effort with my skincare routine and finding products and information that actively work.
I’m not saying that I stick to my routine 100% but I try, I am great in the mornings but not so great at night. I usually work late nights so by the time I get to bed I can just about muster the energy to take my makeup off never mind slapping loads creams on my face. If I am totally honest some nights I don’t even take my makeup off :s I started my skin care adventure around 14 months ago and only in the last 5/6 months have I been noticing a real difference so please don’t think there is a quick fix.
It is important to buy skincare that is suited to your problems rather than what you see everyone else using. What you see below may not work for you but may help in the direction you need to go. I am no expert in this field, I know there will be lots of you that are going through the same things as me or have done previously so I thought I would share what is working for me. Always make sure to do your research when it comes to buying skincare and look for a qualified cosmesutical therapist to help you on your journey. You can find more info here
I use the Image Clear Cell when I have breakouts, I massage it into my skin for 1 minute and rinse. Even when I don’t have any breakouts I use it every 7/10 days just to keep everything at bay.
The Vichy is my everyday cleanser, it lathers up nicely and is gentle on my skin. It is designed for imperfection prone skin and has no soap or alcohol included which is a bonus.
The first serum I bought in June 2016 was the Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector for wrinkles, pores and texture. After using it for a few weeks I definitely noticed a difference in the size of my pores. I use it daily
My favourite serum is the Iluma Intense Brightening Serum by Image Skincare. I will be very surprised if you find someone that doesn’t like it. It is oil free and addresses skin discolouration and redness – two things I suffer with. I use this when I’m not at work or on days were I feel like my skin could do with a boost. I have noticed such a difference since I started using it.
For years I used Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream which I loved but after looking into skincare and wanting an oil-free moisturiser I decided to change to their Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream which is great for oily skin as it helps control shine but it has no SPF.
I decided that I wanted a moisturiser that was oil-free and had SPF included. I came across Image Skincare Prevention+ Daily Matte Moisurizer with 32+SPF whilst researching so I picked it up at my last Image Facial which you can read about here. It’s a great moisturiser although it would be better if it soaked in a bit more than it does but you can’t have everything can you?
Micellar water is my new found favourite for removing makeup. It takes removes everything so you don’t need so many products. I have used the Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar water (pink one) which I find removes all my make-up.
I am now trying out the Vichy Normaderm Micellar Solution. It is a bit on the pricy at £12 but if it’s better for my skin then it will be worth the money.
I started taking Vitamin A after following Jennifer Rock from The Skin Nerd and I have seen my skin come on leaps and bounds but do seek advice before starting to use it. You can’t take it if you are pregnant but there are other options out there for pregnant ladies.
Probiotics were my next purchase. I chose 3 billion friendly bacteria to start me off. From researching skin I found that you have to have a healthy gut to help towards healthy skin.
If my skin feels dry I use Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. Having oily skin means that I rarely need to use a mask for dryness. I use these masks more in the Winter or if I am skiing.
At the minute I am trying out a sample of Image Skincare Vital C hydrating anti-aging serum at night and I have to say I love it. I will be purchasing the full size version soon. I only use it at night but it can be used morning and evening depending on your needs.
I am proud of the routine that I have built and it is amazing what information you can find on the internet these days to help educate and steer yourself in the right direction of improving your skin. Let me know if you have found anything particularly helpful on your skin journey or if this post has been of any help to you 🙂
I hope you all have a lovely week, I will have another blog post next Monday
